"A Glimpse of St. Paul’s Cathedral”, Watercolour on Paper Painting by Filipino Artist Edcel Cabalan
St Paul's Cathedral holds the seat of the Bishop of London and is an Anglican cathedral in London. Cathedrals are the mother churches of the dioceses of London. The Grade I listed building sits at the highest point of Ludgate Hill in the City of London. It was dedicated to Paul the Apostle in AD 604 when it was built. A late 17th-century English Baroque structure designed by Sir Christopher Wren, the present structure dates from the late 17th century. A major rebuilding program in London followed the Great Fire of London, which completed its construction in Wren's lifetime. A Gothic cathedral was the focal point for medieval and early modern London.
It is one of London's most famous and recognizable landmarks. Its dome has dominated the skyline for over 300 years, surrounded by spires from Wren's City churches. The building was the tallest in London from 1710 to 1963, standing at 365 feet (111 meters). The dome is undoubtedly one of the world's tallest.
Painting was inspired by the London urban scape highlighting the St. Paul’s Cathedral.
