"Spoonbills in the Mist", Digital Print by American Artist Matthew Schwartz Spoonbills are long-legged wading birds in the subfamily Plataleinae of the Threskiornithidae (order Ciconiiformes) and ibises. The spoonbill lives in estuaries, saltwater bayous, and lakes. In shallow water or mud, they sweep their long bills from side to side, capturing mainly small fish and crustaceans. The spoonbill extends its neck and legs as it flies and beats its wings steadily. Nests are constructed from sticks in low shrubs or trees, usually in colonies along with ibises and herons, which lay 3 to 5 white eggs with reddish brown spots. Most species of spoonbill have white plumage that is tinged pink, but the roseate spoonbill, which lives in North and South America, has pink plumage with a white neck and upper back.  The Lovely Spoonbills flying over the misty background filled with rivalry green steal your heart at all times.
