"Aleppo", Oil Colour on Canvas Painting by Syrian Artist Nizar Al Hattab
Aleppo is known for its traditional Arabic poetry, music, cuisine, and handicrafts. Several madrasahs and Aleppo University (1960) make it a center of intellectual activity. Ancient artifacts found at several major archaeological sites in northern Syria are displayed at the city's archaeological museum.
In the Battle of Aleppo, there was a major conflict in and around Aleppo, Syria's second-largest city, between Syrian rebels and the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG). As part of the ongoing Syrian Civil War, the battle began on 19 July 2012. The four-year stalemate ended in July 2016, when Russian airstrikes helped Syrian government forces close the last rebel supply line into Aleppo.
Art Smiley presents the art portraying the Aleppo situation together with the different emotions of the people and the women playing the music with real pain.
