Indian Artist Ria Sharma's Portfolio

Ria Sharma is a Dubai based award-winning artist & modern Arabic Calligrapher. She was born in India in 1975. Being a Civil Engineer, she has fulfilled a successful professional career in construction for 16 years. She was the winner of Clyde & Co MENA awards 2018.

She started practicing Art in Dubai in the year 2009. With a desire to bring out goodness to society through art, she involved herself in projects that focus on social issues such as breast cancer awareness, women empowerment, refugee crises, Global Autism Awareness, and collaborating with Local special needs institutes such as Senses.

Ria is a versatile artist, but her true passion has been the play of Cubism in her monochrome subjects. Her dynamic subjects are in rhythm with controlled cubist lines and powerful spirits that seek to burst from the constraints of the cubist shapes. Ria had five successful Solo Shows. She participated in 50 international exhibitions. Her work and style Cubism is covered by many leading newspapers of Dubai and internationally. Her artworks are owned by art lovers from all around the world.

In her art practice, she discusses issues that are beyond mere surroundings. Importance has been given to factors that have deeper values within. We human beings are in general products of the world around us, and connections that we create, whether with places, things, or each other. But rarely, we travel inwards. She tries and explores this connection through her artwork.

“Cubism”:
In Cubist artwork, objects are analyzed, broken up, and reassembled in an abstracted form - instead of depicting objects from a single viewpoint, the subject from a multitude of viewpoints to represent the subject in a greater context. It is a play of rhythmic movements and simplification of connecting forms.

Cubism for her is also the fusing different views of the subject pictured at the same time, also called multiple perspectives, multiplicity, while Constructivism is influenced by common threads between the movements and simplification of geometric forms.

‘’The Search Within Series”:
Ria believes that the true realization of an individual’s identity lies in achieving higher consciousness, and this is reflected in the Sufi tradition of the whirling dervishes whose rhythmic movement takes him to a deeply meditative state. So beautifully reflected in the medieval ‘’Sufi’’ tradition, the melodious and mystic everlasting trance and the swirl truly frees him from all the worldly influences around him.

Ria has captured their divine melody in her favorite Cubist style. "The Search within" is a calming & stress-releasing series where the artist explores the beauty of the world within us.
Reporters have named her series as “CUFISM”. Sufism+Cubism
