Samar Kamel is an Egyptian artist, curator, and author known for artworks that examine cultural attitudes towards women and aim to transform stereotypes through vibrant depictions of the modern woman. 

​With over 64 international art exhibitions and art fairs across the world, Kamel has exhibited in China, Oxford, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Tokyo, Oman, Egypt, the USA, Venice, Brazil, and all over the UAE. Her work is part of the permanent collection of the Bursa Museum of Immigration History, Turkey. 

​A skilled artist, Kamel indulges her passion for painting by exploring different media (oil, acrylic, nail polish, tea bags, ink transfer) and traditional techniques as brushwork, impasto, cross-hatching, and collage. Having acquired her curatorial certification from the Sotheby’s Institute of Art, Kamel has been assigned recently as World Art Dubai curator for the year 2019. She has also undertaken several curatorial projects in her home country of Egypt as well as in the UAE, where she lives and works. 

​She has participated in the coveted Art Dubai, Abu Dhabi Art as an art facilitator, and exhibited in World Art Dubai since its first edition for four consecutive years. She has organized charity auctions to raise funds for the art community and marginalized members of society. She has also served as a mentor and panelist for amateur artists and art competitions in Dubai. Her contributions to art and community have been recognized by her recent nomination for the Emirates Woman of the Year 2018 prize in the category for Art and Culture.

Its merely a brush stroke of their art by mine in our time. And this painting specifically struck me as it highlights our time now “The Pandemic” and how many loved ones were stopped from kissing, hugging, touching or even saying goodbyes. Hence why I highlighted the scarves with the mixed media.

Artist-Details Artist Sharmila Laghate  Statement for these Ramadan themed paintings: I have painted this series of paintings, some in a set, or paired or standalone, and the theme is the spirit of Ramadan. A mosque can be seen against a night sky and in another setting, it is shown against a cheerful blue sky of a serene day.
 Yet another pair of paintings suggest the glory and gift brought in by this holy month, by the ‘Day’ and ‘Night’ paintings respectively. 
The ‘Day’ painting shows through it blazing warm colors, the sincere and pious effort in observing fast and prayer during day in the onset of desert summer, which ends with much benevolence towards fellow human beings as well.
