Royo was born 1941 in Valencia, Spain. An early talent manifested in his father employing tutors to instruct Royo in drawing, painting and sculpture. Royo then went on to study art at San Carlos Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Valencia. On leaving the Royal Academy he added to his skills by creating theatre sets, graphic illustrations and restoration work. His use of colour and texturing capture his subject matter with unique flair.
Royo's treatment of the female model, caught in a serene contemplative moment, are admired by his many collectors. Royo received a commission to paint the royal portraits of King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia of Spain, and in addition, many prominent political and society figures.
The insuppressible trajectory of Royo along with his tremendous international projection has turned him into one of the indispensable artists of our time.
The charm of the Mediterranean given form by the intelligence and virtuosity of his brushes has conquered the international market; as in Japan, as in Latin America, as in Europe.
Above all, however, he has been a success in the United States, which has consolidated his works into being indispensable in the most prestigious collections in the world, (The Sultan of Brunei, King Juan Carlos, etc.) and has also served to set new public attendance records at museums and institutions such as the Coral Spring Museum (Miami), Haggim Museum of Stockton (California), Palacio de los Serranos (Avila), Miramar Museum (Sitges), and the Almudin and Palau de la Musica in Valencia.
